Camps are coming!
The camps that are organized through the School are intended to enrich the development of social skills, communication and self-control of our students. We believe that it is important for the students to have a space where, besides having fun, it also allows them to reflect and open up in an environment outside the home and the school.
In this way, the camps complement the integral education offered by Celtic School because the joy, spirit of cooperation, direct contact with the natural environment, the practice of sports or extreme activities, contribute to this by promoting the development of skills to unfold, favoring the ability to coexist, organization and following rules and instructions. This type of learning is channeled through play and recreation, increasing the independence of each of the participating students. Starting in May, the camps for each of the grades will be held, you can’t miss it!
Why learn mathematics

Mathematics is essential in the development of the necessary skills to solve everyday life problems.
Beyond understanding the concepts that are grouped in the scope of this discipline, the additional gain is diverse, it develops analytical logical thinking which is the one that helps us to break down arguments into hypotheses, to find the existing relationships and to evaluate their veracity.
When we face a mathematical problem, we collect data, analyze the relationship of these to finally reach a solution where thought processes and creativity are involved. This academic exercise contributes to prepare our mind to solve everyday problems, to make decisions knowing how to evaluate the different paths and, most importantly, to find answers based on evidence, not only on beliefs or emotions.
Mathematics is the basis of many other scientific and technological disciplines and actions in our lives, such as being on time for an appointment, managing money, knowing how to get to an address, following a cooking recipe, to name a few.

Physical Education

It is a pleasure to greet you and share with you what we are working on in the Physical Education class with your children during this school year. In each unit we develop motor skills with different disciplines, such as coordination with implements using hoops, balls, ropes or bandanas, among other materials.
In volleyball we develop the basic fundamentals of this fun sport and the types of hitting. We start by playing ‘cachibol’ and then we get into the discipline as such.
The students also learn about some areas of athletics, such as: sprinting, ball throwing, shot put, long jump, relay race; ending with a mini-Olympics where they develop and demonstrate their different skills in each of the competitions.
In basketball we develop different skills, ranging from knowing how to bounce the ball, making dunks and half dunks, knowing the main rules of the sport, ending with a mini tournament between grades.
We move on to soccer where we work on coordination with and without the ball, in this unit the student develops their soccer skills and learns the basic rules of this sport to be able to put it into practice.
Traditional games, in this unit different activities are carried out with popular games for children such as enchanted, hide and seek, blind man’s buffoon, little plane, jump rope, sea snake, stop, rock, paper or scissors among others, with the intention that the student has fun and learns through play.
Time to take stock

As you know, we have reached the end of our 2nd period of ‘tripartite meetings’ of this school year. During these last two months we had the great experience of meeting students, students, moms, dads, family members, teachers and psychologists via Zoom with the objective of following up from what happened in the first interview, making a review through significant progress, observations of behavioral and academic aspects of our students from Pre-First to 6th grade, considering what happened every day, inside and outside the classroom of all their classes.
These meetings continue to be gathering spaces, which help us to achieve a great exercise of reflection and appreciation, teamwork (home-school) with the purpose of identifying together strengths, areas of opportunity, commitments or challenges to continue improving.
To this end, and in support of the development of IB skills -research, thinking, communication, self-management and socialization- of our little and not so little Elementary students, we gladly take up the recommendations and suggestions expressed:
Research skills
- Expand the content of research papers by including reflections or conclusions, making a more exhaustive search with different sources of information.
- Paraphrase and infer information in different texts.
- Recognize details and relevant information from various readings.
Thinking skills
- Encourage the habit of reading, taking care in the selection of books that allow for topics of interest and according to chronological age.
- Review and study grammatical structures to favor the construction of their texts.
- At the completion of assignments and homework, review spelling, writing, and punctuation before submission.
- Review and study multiplication tables to gradually achieve mastery.
Communication skills
- Read out loud different texts at home to improve diction, fluency and intonation.
- Take care of the quality of the structure of each piece of writing considering the writing of the data (name, date, title), writing on the line, respecting the lateral margins and the stroke of the letter.
- Share knowledge, doubts and academic concerns through directed or spontaneous participation in the classroom.
- Study, practice and apply the vocabulary covered in the different lessons to understand its meaning, spelling and pronunciation.
- Encourage assertive communication in situations that may be encountered.
Socialization skills
- Encourage school coexistence, avoiding inappropriate games that provoke risky situations.
Self-management skills
- Pay attention to listen, respect and follow directions.
- Respect the work times of the day to generate self-management habits, focused on time management.
- Respect the delivery of work in the established time and according to the established characteristics.
