The people on the other side of the screen
By Alicia Silva
What teaching experiences have we gained as individuals and teachers on the other side of the screen? With the doors of our schools closed and classes in a new and challenging mode, schools around the world have generated diverse strategies. A community of support and resources has been created that already existed but has been strengthened by the learning obtained by teachers around the world. Below, some teachers share their experience working online.
TEAMWORK OVERCOMES OBSTACLES
‘My greatest learning has been that working as a team makes us strong to cope with the difficulties of the day to day’ (Carlos Zermeño, Tutor and Values teacher at Colegio Celta Internacional Middle School; Querétaro, Mexico)
THE DIGNITY OF THE PERSON AND ITS ATTRIBUTES
‘My greatest learning is that education must and will continue to emphasize the dignity of the person and, therefore, we promote the learning of becoming people of integrity and boldness in all circumstances’.
‘My professional experience continues to be a challenge of innovation and I accept it with joy’. (Juan Carlos Cruz Aguilar, Individuals and Societies Teacher in High School at Colegio Celta Internacional; Querétaro, Mexico)
THE SIMPLICITY OF LIFE HAS BECOME COMPLICATED: COEXISTENCE
‘During this period of pandemic, I have learned to trust my resolution skills in unfamiliar environments, to take advantage of the skills I have, as well as to enjoy what academic life offers, since the current situation allows us to value the simplest things in life such as human contact or spaces for coexistence’ (Suleima Almaraz, Civic and Ethics Teacher in Middle School at Colegio Celta Internacional; Querétaro, Mexico)
THE FAMILY AND HOME AS A CENTER OF ACTION IN TEACHING
‘My greatest teaching in these times of pandemic has been to be more empathetic and tolerant both with my students and with my family in order to develop a better teaching-learning process and a harmonious environment at home’ (Mayela Sosa, Tutor and Physics Teacher in Middle School at Colegio Celta Internacional; Querétaro, Mexico)
THE LITTLE DETAILS CONNECT US
‘It has motivated me to be more creative, pay attention to the small details to connect with students, recognizing their emotions, but above all highlighting the ability to adapt to new ways of learning together and having a positive attitude in the face of new technological challenges’ (Alí Camarillo, Tutor Teacher in Middle School at Colegio Celta Internacional, Querétaro, Mexico).
